thirroul yoga shala

Our classes are dynamic and based on Ashtanga style yoga.

This means you will use bandhas (internal actions) and ujjayi breathing (free breath with sound) as you move through a set sequence of yoga postures and transitions designed to assist in building strength and flexibility while focusing and calming the mind.

If you are new to yoga we recommend you start in our Beginners Course or in Monday morning or Thursday evening classes.

Check facebook page for time changes on Public & School Holidays.

Practicing Yoga

Ashtanga style yoga can be practiced to development of strength and flexibility, functional mobility and meditation through breath focus.

Students learn the set sequence of postures and transitions known in Ashtanga Yoga as the Primary Series and are encouraged to progress at their own comfortable pace according to their unique circumstances.

Through repetition of this sequence of shapes and postures many layers of possibilities within each movement, gesture and action will open up to you creating an intimate awareness of your body.

You will become stable in your legs and confident in the constellation of your limbs in various postures. Working with focus on your internal body, breath and yoga asana can bring you into a calm and meditative state of mind.

The postures in the sequence evolve slowly over time and allow students to choose the depth and intensity of their experience depending how they feel on the day. You will come to know each posture well and be able to practice independently.

Join our weekly yoga classes in the dynamic style of Ashtanga Yoga held conveniently at the Thirroul Community Centre & Library. Our beginners course is held at Coledale Community Centre.

Our yoga classes are suitable for most people ranging from those with no yoga experience to seasoned yoga practitioners.

*Check Facebook page for class times on Public Holidays and during School Holiday periods.

Please note: classes are dynamic and not suitable during pregnancy.

We have practiced this method of yoga ourselves over many years and found great value in it.

Fun at Yoga

You’re not the only one, but you’ve come to the right place. A consistent yoga practice will help you develop your flexibility and strength slowly over time. But alignment principles are important, we can help with that.

Due to COVID 19 we are unable to provide mats or yoga props in classes. Please bring your own equipment.

During pregnancy, we recommend you take pre-natal yoga classes with one of the wonderful local pre-natal yoga teachers in the area. We currently do not offer pre-natal classes.

It is not recommended to practice Ashtanga yoga on the first 3 days of your period. If you do practice, avoid twisting postures and inversions.
